How To Land a Job in The Digital Industry

Are you getting ready + preparing for that job interview of a lifetime? Maybe it's your very first job, I know how nerve wrecking that can be - in fact many will tell you that going to a job interview will always be one of the most stressful things in life. It's not easy being scrutinized. You see we are all very fragile + we all want to believe that we are clever or at least smart at some tasks that others struggle with. Well you are not alone, here's a few personal tips on how to land a job in the digital industry or any job for that matter. Good Luck!

1. Body language.

Make sure you take a few deep breaths before you enter the room. Make eye contact but keep it brief and nonchalant throughout the whole interview session. (It's not a who can stare the longest competition) Keep your focus on the discussion + remember to keep your answers short and to the point. I think it's a bit of an ego thing with the firm handshake thing, especially among men. Keep it firm but short and try to keep a polite and cheerful disposition. Also, refrain from folding your arms across your chest, sit up straight and lean slightly forward in your chair. It will make you appear interested and confident.

2. Be mindful.

Make sure that you do your research about the company, do the Facebook stalk if you must, and yes we all do this. It's always good to know who you are going to deal with. Make sure you clean up all posts online that may count against you. Also try to read the room and try to lead the conservation in a direction where you can show off your strong points without appearing vane. If you know about upcoming industry workshops mention them, show that you know your stuff. Companies want go-getters that's in it for the long run, you don't have to be the smartest but an eager attitude and a willingness to learn will get you far.

3. Dress for success.

The digital industry are well know for its laid-back approach to dressing up or rather dressing down. Yet one can still look polished and groomed with an outfit that's simple yet stylish. Like a good pair of jeans, black pumps and the classic crisp white shirt. Add to that clean shiny hair + nails and a splash of red lipstick and you're good to go. It's in the details, the little splashes of colour and of course a dashing smile. With that said, if you're in a more formal industry, invest and trade the jeans for a good black pantsuit that you can dress up as you go along. Now go get them!
